Dubai, 10 May 2021:

Since the beginning of the month of Ramadan, Dubai Municipality launched a community awareness campaign, “Shop smart and reduce your waste” to raise awareness on the importance of community contribution in reducing waste production in general and adopting many sustainable environmental methods and ideas while shopping as well as at home, thus enhancing the values of the culture of rationalizing consumption, sustainability and reducing food waste percentages during the days of the holy month.

The campaign 'Shop smart and reduce your waste' comes within the community awareness plan in the field of sustainable waste management, which aims to promote the spread of a culture of reducing waste production and following the best sustainable practices, both by individuals and the organizations, thus contributing to achieving the goals of the Strategic Waste Management Plan 2013-2030 and consolidating the concepts of sustainable environmental development. It is necessary to point out the importance of enhancing the social responsibility of every individual in the society by committing to taking responsibility for reducing waste and adhering to the best sustainable environmental practices in every place where he or she is.

This campaign included the publication of 23 awareness messages related to sustainable waste management, which fall under four main themes, which are Smart Shopping, Tips to Overcome Plastic Pollution, Overcome Food Waste and Proper Disposal of Waste. If individuals and institutions adhere to them, it will have a direct impact on spreading the culture of sustainability and promoting the values of social environmental responsibility.

In order to enhance electronic awareness, advertisements and awareness messages for this campaign have been published on the social media platforms of Dubai Municipality, in addition to that they will be published via e-mail to all employees of the Dubai government. Cooperation will also be intensified with all partners from the government and private sectors to enhance the areas of environmental awareness for the category of students and employees by organizing remote lectures and publishing messages and advices via e-mail to spread and popularize the culture of reducing the negative impacts of waste on all elements of the environmental system and human health and safety.
