Dubai, United Arb Emirates – April 20, 2019:   Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, hosted today the second edition of Volunteer Emirates 2019, in support of the National Charity Schools Girls (NCS) in Nasiriyah, Sharjah. This edition witnessed an impressive participation of 150 volunteers who helped in the refurbishment of the school to enhance the learning environment for 1,500 students.

As part of this initiative, volunteers brought practical necessities to the school, including assembling 750 students’ desks and chairs, installing laser printers, and data shows. In addition to installing essential education equipment, they also stocked the teachers’ lounge with 40 desks and chairs, and brightened classrooms and corridors with vivid decorations and educational murals, creating a conducive learning environment for the students. Moreover, the science lab was fully refurbished by installing new cabinets, tables, chairs, fridges, sinks, as well as other lab equipment.

Speaking about the 2nd edition of Volunteer Emirates, Abdulla Ahmed Al Shehhi, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Cares, said: “In March we kicked off our first school refurbishing edition of Volunteer Emirates 2019 in Dubai, and we are delighted to host our second edition today at The National Charity School for Girls in Sharjah. The goal of this initiative is to give children the tools they need to succeed, and the UAE community never fails to show up and make that happen. All we have achieved today has been made possible through the valuable support of our enthusiastic volunteers. Through this edition, we are helping students in this school reach their dreams and get on the best footing for a bright and successful future.”

“Words cannot express what an impact Volunteer Emirates has made today. The initiative has given us everything we asked for and more, exceeding our expectations and setting our students up for success. We are particularly grateful to the volunteers whose time and energy really made a difference today,” said Etidal Sahwail, School Principal at the National Charity School for Girls in Sharjah.

Alison Bruns from UK said: “Volunteering with Dubai Cares has allowed me to go beyond myself, my family and my community, and help others. I can’t wait to see the smiles on these children’s faces when they see what we’ve done here today.”

Mustafa Harbaji has volunteered with Dubai Cares 7 times in the UAE and once in Nepal where he helped set the foundation for a new community school.

Shalin Kaladharan from India was born in the UAE in 1982. He feels very strongly about supporting the local community. He has been volunteering with Dubai Cares since 2014. He has volunteered with the organization more than 30 times.
