Announced today at GITEX Technology Week, the two-day event will foster global collaboration amongst law enforcement agencies across all aspects of AI policing

Dubai, UAE, October 20, 2018:   Dubai Police have today announced plans for Future Societies 5.0: a summit of AI-led policing that aims to become the premier platform for inter-force technological advancement.

Managed by Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and taking place April 22-23, 2019, Future Societies 5.0 will be the region’s first dedicated AI law enforcement event directly addressing how digital technology can allow international police forces to establish securer, safer societies through innovations such as AI surveillance, predictive policing and the deployment of robot officers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be at its core, with discussion, analysis and technologies focusing on the central strategic pillars of AI policing: futuristic stations, crime prevention and investigation, forensics, road safety, crisis-disaster management, operations and customer service.

The announcement of the event follows this year’s formation of the Dubai Police Strategic Plan (2018-2021), devised in line with the UAE Strategy for artificial intelligence, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in accordance with the Dubai 2021 Plan. In accordance with the plan, the force created a new General Department of Artificial Intelligence, which aims to both ‘Delight the Society' and make Dubai a safe and smart city by capitalizing on AI tech.

By 2031, the objective is to have AI methods used across all areas of police, including security, forecasting of crime and traffic accidents, and developing the best techniques and AI tools to serve the needs of the people locally and internationally.

Future Societies 5.0 will invite police departments from around the world to gather and establish global partnerships, discuss best practices and exchange forward-thinking knowledge and ideas on the digital tech that is transforming 21st century policing.

The two-day event will also offer unrivalled business opportunities for both tech enterprises and startups who believe their digital innovations can help augment, accelerate and advance the services and initiatives police are committed to delivering locally and globally by harnessing the very best AI techniques and tools. The summit shall provide a vast conference agenda, with powerful keynotes from distinguished personalities, plus a plethora of experiential and training workshops.

Future Societies 5.0 will also reward creativity and inventive thinking in digital tech, recognising trailblazing achievements in AI research and smart applications in law enforcement with the inaugural Dubai Police Global AI Excellence Awards, where categories will include Best Mobile Application in Policing,  Best AI Research Project and best AI use case in policing. The awards have been developed in partnership with leading international entities such as Deloitte and IEEE.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander In Chief, Dubai Police, said: “Through the Dubai Police Global Excellence Awards, we introduce a new global standard that will help police forces and law enforcement agencies, seeking qualitative transformation, to build an organisational capacity that helps them achieve excellence and reach a leadership position in the world while still serving their communities and fighting new and emerging threats.”

Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, Director General of the Artificial Intelligence Department of Dubai Police, also noted: “Our achievement of our aspiration to become the smartest police force in the world shall be accelerated by the most advance AI technologies and its applications. By opening a dialogue with our global peer police forces with the future opportunities to collaborate in meaningful projects, the goal to achieve a safer and more secured society locally and globally shall be sooner rather than later.”

The announcement of the debut Future Societies 5.0 was made today at GITEX Technology Week (taking place October 14-18 at Dubai World Trade Centre), where Dubai Police were showcasing their first officer-free Smart Station, and Amna – their first virtual police officer in Sheikh Saeed Hall.
